Should I Start My Business Part-Time or Go Full-Time?
One question that a lot of new home business owners ask themselves is should I start out doing this part-time or full-time?
Let’s talk about that and look at a few things.
Conventional wisdom would have you think that the more time you spend in your business, the more success you will have and this may be true to a point. However does that mean you should quit your job and devote all your time to your new online business?Absolutely Not!
For some it’s tempting to leave their full-time job (and the income that comes with it) to pursue their new venture. For most people this is a problem. Starting any type of business can take time to build up the income level you need to match what you are making at your current job. It’s rare (but not impossible) for people to immediately do this their first month or two.
Usually the best advice is to start part-time, dedicate and really focus on the time you do work and get it to a level where you have doubled your income before you consider quitting that day job.
I have a good friend who was in this situation. Soon after he started his online business he was already making double what he was taking in each an every month at his job. Instead of quitting immediately he instead decided to wait twelve months and see if he could maintain the income levels and then quit.
Well at the 9 month mark, he had TRIPLED his “Day Job” income and at that point realized that it was time to quit. I love to hear him talk about the day he walked out of the office with his “Cardboard box” full of stuff…not because he was fired or laid off but because he quit!
So here is the good news. With an online business, you really can start it part-time and make a full-time income. In fact when you get to that point where you do quit your full-time day job, you can now just work part-time and do all the other things you want to do in life and still make a great income!
