Football Business Conference and NFL Combine… Same Weekend!
I must say that this past weekend attending the Sports Management Worldwide Conference as
well as the NFL Combine in Lucas Oil Stadium was definitely 2 bucket list items to be checked
off the bucket list.
I recently completed an online Football General Manager/Scouting class with SMWW and part
of their curriculum was to be an invited guest to the NFL Combine at the same time the
conference was taking place. During the conference, I got the opportunity to talk with
John Wooten affectionately known as “The Godfather of the NFL”, a former GM and ESPN NFL
Insider Mark Dominic as wells as ESPN NFL Insider and TV Analyst Adam Shefter.
Being in the same room as those guys as well as many of the NFL Execs, Coaches, players and
former players was an awesome experience. I got the chance to network, ask direct football
questions to these guys and get a gauge on how I could possibly assist the leage, the teams
and/or players with the kind of services that I provide when it comes to leadership, service
and inspiration. The feedback was positive and well received from my standpoint and I appreciate
everyone who I came into direct contact with.
Of course, being in the stadium as a guest to watch
the NFL Combine of the Collegiate players who was
invited to workout for the NFL Teams was such an honor. I can say that I was in the building
when history was made after witnessing, John Ross – Wide Receiver out Washington, run that
4.22 secs 40 yd dash that broke the record held by Chris Johnson 9 years ago.
I was also glad to see that there was 3 guys from my high school (John Tyler) in Tyler, Tx.
that was invited to the combine… (Greg Ward – UH, Fred Ross – Miss. State, Tyus Bowser – UH)
and they did well. All in all I had an incredible weekend of football work and play and I am
looking to get in deeper with this football business.
