This book is a must-read… It implicitly challenges us to apply a checklist mentality to every facet of our own medical practices. Health Service Journal (UK)

Knowledge has both saved us and burdened us.

Many times getting the steps right is proving to be brutally hard, even if you know them.

We have accumulated a lot of know-how and with it, we have indeed accomplished great things. Nonetheless, that know-how is often unmanageable.

The volume and complexity of what we know has exceeded our individual ability to deliver its benefits correctly, safely or reliably.

What do we do when knowledge and expertise are not enough?

Tackle Reading and Win the Game!

Today was a great day to team up with elementary schools, Kathryn Starke (Organizer) and the NFL Alumni for its 4th annual Tackle Reading Across America Day, to promote a love for literacy with a passion for football.

Thanks to my SFA Lumberjack Alum and friend Shlonda Tolbert (teacher)and school (J.P. Starks Math, Science and Technology Vanguard) for allowing me to be the guest for the day with her class.

We enjoyed a great time of reading books, role playing different activities and asking and answering a ton of questions.

A JT Lion and a Lufkin Panthererette working together to make an impact with our youth.

Buying a New Book

I want to share a few tips from having a conversation with a Super Successful real estate magnet at a business conference in reference to buying a new book and how to create more speed and momentum in my business.

Challenge

1. He asked me how many business books do I read a month?
2. Then he asked what is the typical time it takes me to read a 200 word business book?
3. Then he challenged me to increase my speed in reading the book and implementing 1 idea from it within 24-48 hours.

Speed and momentum in your action taking is crucial in expanding both your mind and business. He finished off our discussion by saying, “that you can always go back to gain more insight and clarity from re-reading the book” however the initial buy it, read and implement it” is a nugget I can chew and digest on.

He said to use that “Gut feeling” you have when you see the book and the feeling you have when it resonates with you for a particular reason.

Remember… SPEED and ACTION are the keys to getting a start on expanding and moving forward with your ideas before your mind-shift to something else.

I just completed a book given to me as a gift a couple of days ago as well as completed 2 half read e-books on my kindle and now taking action from the reads. Now that you read my post, let’s take action!

I thought I would take a quick snapshot of a few books I am reading for this 2014 year.

I have always been a reader from a very early age and when I heard this quote, “Leaders are Readers”, that really inspired me further to read as much as I can. I want to grow as much as I can and become a better leader each day.

Each one of these books here in this photo are truly inspirational, insightful as well as practical. There are a lot of “Gold Nuggets” or should I say “Gold Bars” of Wisdom are in each of these books.

Ok leader, take your pick and get your pad and pen out to take a lot of notes. You heard the phrase, “If you knew better, you would do better”? Well, now you know so pick up a copy of any one of these books below when you get a chance.

Start Feeding Your Brain Daily for Best Results

Are You Feeding Your Brain the Right Kind of Food?

When we open our eyes to start a new day, there are all sorts of things in front of us begging for our attention. You have the TV, the News, Politics, Reality TV, etc… and if we are not careful, they make it look juicy enough to want to take a bite out of it and get our fill.

Here is a quote I recall from years ago that states, “I always turn to the sports section first. The sports section records people’s accomplishments; the front page nothing but man’s failures”(Earl Warren). Not sure if this fits in these days and times because of all of the negative stories we hear regarding our sports figures. This is where we are at when it comes to reading so many articles and watching TV shows that may not be healthy for our mindset. Not all sports articles and TV shows are like this but we know the old adage that good news travel fast but bad news travel faster is so true in most cases.

Thinking about this over the weekend led me to ask myself as well as you… Are you really feeding your brain the right kinds of food? So many people feed their brain junk food! We all know how junk food works; tastes good and sweet but can really do damage to our teeth, body and overall health. Sometimes those TV reality and gossip talk shows really looks good and get our attention however afterwards all we are left with many times is something to gossip about and not much work or progress done.

Well, as leaders and entrepreneurs, I believe you should be feeding your brain with things that will better your life; not bring you down! Develop a library of good inspirational books that you read on a daily basis. I truly believe that with books like these you need to set aside time to not only read it but have an in depth study of the book. Most leaders I know have an extensive library of books related to their field of work and personal development and they set aside at least 30 minutes to an hour a day feeding their brain with positive content.

Keep in mind that reading a book just one time and expecting things to work is not reality. You need to read, study and take notes to get the full effect on what you are reading and how it can impact your life. Like an example I heard the other day relating reading books to eating food. Just because you ate food yesterday don’t mean that you will be well nourished today and tomorrow; you need food every single day. Read and study everyday to allow your brain to get fed and stay nourished with positive material to grow your mind.
