Here I am hanging out with Bob Williams, Eric Kraft and many others to be in attendance at this breakfast meeting put on by my College Almer Mater, Stephen F. Austin State University . These SFA Alumni Association breakfast meetings take place once a quarter in a few selected cities such as Dallas, Houston, The Woodlands and probably a city near you in the upcoming months.

It’s a great way to listen to what’s going on at the University as well as catching up with the alumnus of people that lives in the surrounding areas. The school, students and staff are doing well and there are plenty of opportunities for both students and former students alike. Alright Lumberjack family, I am anxiously looking forward to the next breakfast meeting and so should you.

This note about Being a Pro, will be Part 1 of a 3 piece post regarding a few of my fun experiences and life lessons with my time as a Pro Sports Player. My intention with this note is to assist You with Being a Pro when you interact and engage with co-workers and leaders on the job, new acquaintances or total strangers you just met.

This Guy is Truly Big Time both On and Off the Field!

Hall of Fame Player having lunch with 6 other lesser known players. Fans come up for his autograph, he politely signs the t-shirt and to the fans surprise, he passes the autograph t-shirt down the table for the other players to sign.

One fan shouts out, what are you doing, “I only want your autograph“!
Hall of Fame Player says in a calm voice… “These guys are my teammates and you may only think I’m special but these guys are special to me and their names should be on there too“.

Fans and the lesser known players (including me) was taken aback by this statement because we all knew that the Hall of Fame Player was definitely the Big Kahuna however his statement and actions was what I would call, “Big Time”!

This impressed upon me that your actions matter no matter how big or small. Also, no matter how big or important you may become to your organization, company or team, stay humble enough to include the very people that allow you to shine.

This not only will help you stay grounded, can you imagine what this does to your teammates, your co-workers, to be included like that…

They will run through a brick wall, they will work with all of their heart to make sure that you are able to do your job but also that the team is in the best position to win the game, to close the deal, to make sure that the program is running smooth

And that my friends is…
BIG TIME!!

This was definitely a moment that you wished the cameras, the sports and news channels and talk shows was there to capture this positive moment because most of the time the headlines and news report on high caliber athletes, leaders and executives are slanted to the negative.

Can you imagine the paparrazzi and cameras following your every move watching your every move? Just to pick out your flaws (we all have them) to pounce on and make it the focal point of everything about you. Give them something positive to report and they disappear
or keep it quiet.

When we all left the restaurant and got back together, we made sure to thank him for looking out for us but also let him know that when contract time came for him again, to be sure and let the team owners know, like he said to the fan, how special we are and that our names should be on there (that contract) too,lol.

This past weekend was truly one for the ages with being involved with so many people that I love being around and investing quality time with. This is why I titled this post, “What a Great Moment in Time at the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Conclave”, because this event was definitely an event that I will cherish for a lifetime.

A little over 25 years ago, I pledged this fraternal organization know as Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. with my line-brother Stevie Hicks. This past week in Houston, Texas I attended the Kappa Alpha Psi conclave event held every two years for all of our fraternity brothers worldwide.

Myself along with another Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity bro. (Kirk Nobles) allowed ourselves two days to go and make it happen. The fellowship at celebrations, the talks and memories of yesterday, networking for business opportunities and meeting new brothers to learn and grow with, was truly a grand experience.

Now, just a few days removed, I still haven’t taken the time to really glean from the experience and pull out some of the golden nuggets that I want to share with you guys.

I will state that when the opportunity presents itself for you to be around like minded individuals that are striving for a higher cause, please invest the time and resources to attend and be an active participant in it.

Cherish The Moments

We saw a few people hanging around having a so-so time because they was sitting waiting for things to happen and I bet a million bucks (if I had multi-millions) that this was a reflection of their life also. Opportunities very seldom come to you and if it does, you still have to grab onto it. To get what you want from an event or life itself, you have to have an open mind, take chances, be yourself, live in the moment and make it happen! Brotherhood was definitely in order, along with so many business and life opportunities throughout the entire event and I must say that I am definitely looking forward to the next Kappa Alpha Psi conclave in that lovely city, New Orleans.

God showed us favor for allowing her to be a very healthy, enthusiastic, hyper Princess of a girl and I am glad to be her dad!!!!

Lauryn, we spend everyday enjoying all kinds of stuff, playing, reading, running and laughing and oh how can I forget, getting some discipline when you start getting out of line,lol.

Don’t play temple run too much while I’m gone, watch out for your lil. sis Morgan and remember to wake up early to get everyone ready for Church on Sunday.

What do my girls have to do with a higher level?

I just got in from a 4 day mastermind get together with an organization that I hold dear. We all had a great time and the group also allowed me to be the keynote speaker and also have a book signing too. All in all it was a fantastic weekend and to top it off, I was even more excited when I return home, because this was the first time I’ve been away for an extended period of time since Morgan (our 5 month old daughter) was born.

Well, I did make it to a weekend marketing conference a couple of months ago however this trip was a little different. This particular trip was centered on myself, my products and inspiring others with content of value and so I had to prepare to be on my A Game to perform and give value to others. Whereas the other trip was more about listening and learning from other leaders and marketers on how to become more productive get better at my craft.

When I returned home from an exhausting trip, My Wife and my girls (Lauryn and Morgan) made me feel 10 feet tall and ready to take on the world, just from all of the hugging and kissing on me until I almost passed out. lol!

At that moment, I realized how blessed I am with my family and also blessed to be doing what I really enjoy and getting paid for it too. At this very same moment it hit me that my work, the sacrifices, the events, the traveling, the all night work sessions, webinars, reading, training and so on, are worth every minute and every kiss that they gave me and more!

I want many that will read this post and hopefully gain a clearer understanding of WHY you make the sacrifices that you make. I hope you gain an even greater understanding of how much your kids and your family mean to you. My prayer is that you seek and find your purpose in your life’s work to give and become all that you were meant to be. Find your avenue of wealth to afford you the financial and time freedom to make it possible to live the life you deserve with your family and around the people you want to be with.

The beauty about all of this is that we are all a work in progress and have plenty of growing to do to make a difference. I finally can say that I know what I want and most importantly, Why I want it and instead of waiting until I come back to get my kisses, I am dreaming and working hard to have my girls at all of my speaking and marketing events with kisses waiting as soon as I finish instead of that long wait back home.

That’s us hanging in my home office with me trying to get some work done and Morgan, our 5 month old daughter, trying to get some play time in. Well, you see who’s on the winning side of this battle, none other than Miss Morgan. This is one boss that will not let me work!lol

Being an online entrepreneur, I have been blessed to setup my schedule to block off time to work at different times of the day or night. I am usually very discipline with time and projects that I need to complete however after a long day or night of working and training, when I see this face smiling and playing, it makes it hard for get some sleep.

Being the owner of my business is both fun and a lot of work but with the little one in the house, it doesn’t take a rocket science to know who the real boss is in my business. As I look at my work to-do list and travel schedule, I realize that I have some catching up to do and as long as she is up throughout the day, this usually determine how long I am up working through the night.

To all of my work from home entrepreneurs and professionals, we take great pride in working for ourselves and having the freedom and flexibility to make things happen on our own terms. Even though I make the major decisions for my company, this is one “tough little boss” that I can proudly say I am glad to lose sleep for and work anytime she will let me. I came across this post that I thought was kind of cool.

From Lauryn:
“I love my life because I am a big sister and I’m lucky because my Dad is rich. And do you know why? Because he has a $100!
Wow, if I had that much I would spend it to go to New York and sing and Morgan (lil. sister) would sing with me because
I need a backup singer!”

I can’t even put a price on the fact that she is loving her life and taking pride in being a big sister. At home she is
always singing and dancing and pushing her little 4 month of sister to join in. She has dreams of going to New York and
Hollywood and I like the way she included her little sister in her words, to accompany her to New York as a backup singer.

*Side Note* Not sure if Morgan will want to be backup, she’s seem to have a lead singer mentality already.**

Now, I know as she grows older and like most teenagers, she starts thinking she knows it all and boys start getting into the picture (shotgun ready!!!). The pressure will be on both her mother and I, to continue stepping up to the plate of leadership and responsibility like Parents should do.

I must admit that the statement she made of her “Dad being Rich because he has $100” caught me off guard and I had to smile on that one because you got to love kids and their innocence at this young stage of life. That little girl words made me feel like the best Dad in the whole world not because of the “Being Rich” statement, it’s because I remember a “short” time ago when I was her age and feeling good about my Parents, family and life. I remember having dreams of doing many things, writing them down and talking about them with my friends and anyone close enough around me to listen. Fast forward a few years and today I’m still dreaming, writing, talking, doing and being.

I strongly believe that there is power in words, both negative and positive, and I ask each of you reading this post to stay on the positive side with your words not only to others but most importantly to yourself first! Get around others that speak words of love, encouragement and support to lift you higher on your journey. Now I must get back to work because I feel the pressure of “being rich” and I wonder what she will think if she knew that I had $200?

Well anyway, her just released self produced documentary titled; “Beyonce – Life is But a Dream“ came on along with her exclusive interview with Oprah soon afterward. We had magazines with her pictures plastered all over our kitchen and dining room tables along with her dance moves being displayed on every TV set in the house. Like I stated before, Beyonce’ was all over my house and for Lauryn, this was the best weekend of her young life. On the replay of the documentary and the interview, I agreed to watch it with my daughter only if she would sit beside me and listen instead of dancing every five minutes.

For someone like Beyonce’ who has been performing and singing at a high level for a long time and have experienced so much success at what she does, I knew she would share some inspirational “nuggets” and I wanted my daughter to listen and absorb. I wanted to take this time to help her understand on a very basic level that there is more to Beyonce’s success than just showing up in the studio and on the dance floor. To my surprise, there I was with a notepad full of inspiring notes and ideas that was valuable to say the least and I will share the highlights with you on this post.

Here are some of those nuggets:

THINKING – She stated that she have to think about finances, think about being practical, think about her future, think about investments and to be serious and continue to think things through.

A BUSINESS WOMAN – Sher learned from her father that it is difficult being polite and being in business because it does not work too well. You have to be fair and most importantly, be fair to yourself!

BEING AN ARTIST – Be an artist sometimes things just donâ€t make sense. Life is speaking to us all of the time and we have to slow down and pay attention. Do things when she is inspired. When you are an artist, an entertainer, you have to believe you are an artist, set standards and express your art for the right reasons.

BEING IN THE ZONE – When you are in that zone, you feel at home, thereâ€s a fire inside and you have that feeling that you know exactly what you are doing and you are doing it. Oprah mentioned that being in the zone is when Art meets God! Oprah also stated that during the Super Bowl Halftime performance, Beyonce’ just didn’t meet the moment, she owned the moment!

HIGHER POWER – God is Real, he lives inside of me.

MAKING DECISIONS – There are no trumpets or drum rolls going off when you are making the biggest decisions of your life. Sometimes you donâ€t know that you are making them at the time.

TRUST YOURSELF – At the hardest moments in life when you feel that you are not strong enough or you are not ready, you put in the work then you just have to jump.

SELF AWARENESS/TRANSPARENCY – Know who you are, stay on the edge and stay relevant. Mystique is also important but you have to stop pretending that you have it all together, all of the time. When you are scared be scared, release it. After you release it you become stronger, braver.

At the end of the Oprah Interview, Oprah gave Beyonce one of the biggest compliments that really opened my daughter’s eyes and it was taken from Maya Angelou; “You make me proud to spell my name… W-O-M-A-N. I personally believe that this quote says it best for all of the women out here making an impact and a difference in the lives of others.

Yes I must admit that I, like most men, am a big fan of Beyonce and her dance moves however I am truly a fan of someone that is doing what they loved to do and being successful at it. At the end of the night, I mentioned to my wife that it was a good night for Lauryn to not only see her favorite performer do her thing on stage but also to get a little understanding on Beyonce’s thoughts and mindset on her life away from the bright lights and big crowds.

We did have fun singing and dancing to those catchy beats but now I am a bit overloaded with Beyonce’ to say the least. Now the week just started, we cleaned off the tables and cut the TV off because it’s that time again with school for Lauryn and work for the wife and I. In a few days, I will have a chance to figure out who we will have over to the house for next weekend.
