Getting Value from Your Event Experience

This is the time of the year where a lot of events are happening and if you are like me, in that you are planning in advance, how you are going to get the most value from your event experience. These events maybe your company event or a general event in your area of focus. You blocked the dates on your calendar, purchased your ticket, booked your flights and room and now you are ready for the world!

Here are a few tips with to help you maximize your event experience and get the most value out of it.

Tip #1 – Arrive to the event early 
It’s a good idea to arrive to the event at least a day early. This way you are not stressed about rushing to the event the morning of. What if your flight is delayed and you miss part of the event? Also arriving early gives you a change to meet and network with others who are their for the event.

Tip #2 – Find out and research the speakers before you show up
Take the time to learn more about the line up of speakers so you can be better prepared for what you are going to learn. You may find you are more interested in certain speakers than others or find you have things in common. You may want to research the product they sell as well in case some of them will be offering products or services at the event.

Tip #3 – Do a little research on who is attending
If you have access to see who is attending the event, it’s a good idea to do a little research and make a list of specific people you want to meet. If there is a Facebook group or page for the event, join it and get to know the other attendees. Having a specific list of people you want to network with can really help you reach your goals.

Tip #4 – Have business cards
Yes you need business cards. There seams to be a trend out there right now of “I don’t do business cards” , especially in the Internet Marketing world. In my opinion when people say that they are really saying, “I don’t care about networking or I’m too important for you.” Make sure you have a business card that really stands out so people will remember you. When you get business cards at the event, make sure you write a note on the card so you remember what it is that sets that person apart. This will help you remember all the people you meet. Make sure you enter these contacts into some kind of tracking system where you keep track of everyone you met and follow up immediately after the event.

Tip #5 – Sit up front
Sitting as close to the front is always recommended so you are not distracted and can concentrate. Many times you will notice that top income earners and leaders sit up front. There is a reason for this! You never know when one golden nugget will be shared at your event and by sitting up front you will have the best chance to catch it!

Tip $#6 – Network outside the event
One of the best things about events is the Networking! Most of the time this happens during breaks, at lunch and in the evening after the event. Take advantage of this instead of just going back to your room and vegging out. You never know who you will meet at an event and how it will impact your business. Make sure you take every opportunity you can to do so. Sometimes at events, people will network in the halls during different speakers. Leave it up to your judgement to do so, but be aware it’s very rude to the person who is speaking so keep it to a minimum.

Tip #7 – Have fun!
Have fun at your event. Loosen up a bit and remember to smile. Most people are attracted to others that are happy, confident and genuine. If there are outside activities going on, participate in them and enjoy yourself.
The bottom line about events…

Events drive growth in your business. I always recommend that you attend at least 3 events a year. Building Relationships is the Key to Long Term Business Success

In your business, no matter what industry, one of the most important things you can do is build relationships with your prospects.

You have created videos, blogposts and articles, training webinars and products that speak to your potential business partners. You have gone out and marketed those bog posts through free and paid advertising mediums and people have come to your website and opted in to your newsletter or email list through your auto-responder. What a great feeling to see the many number of prospects on a daily basis opting in to your site because they see value and something of benefit to them and their business. Now your work really gets started as you go about building relationships with them.

With your auto-responder, it is important to email your list daily. This is how you’re going to build that trust and the feeling that they know you and like you. As you’re writing your emails, think about what it is that your readers want. It is important to know their wants, needs, and fears so those issues can be effectively addressed with your product offers and solutions.

As you’re writing your emails, think of everyone you are contacting as a personal friend of yours. You want to communicate with them in this manner. Be conversational, be excited, and most of all, be sincere.

Know the hot emotional buttons of your prospect and make sure you use those in your communications.

What is the one thing that your prospect wants more than anything?
What is the one thing they would like to change about their life?
Find out what your prospect wants and give it to them!
Talk directly to your prospect by using their name and also phrasing your statements using “you” statements.
This makes the writing much more personal!

Create Interest by Telling Stories or giving them Testimonials.

People don’t like theories and they don’t need facts. They like real life examples with real life people involved.
Everyone loves reading a good story and keep in mind that facts tell, but it’s the stories that sell.
People are online looking for solutions or answers. Don’t try to sell them right away, get their attention, keep them reading, explain the BENEFITS, build the relationship, create a desire for your offer… and then ask for the sale.

Always keep in mind your prospect in a person just like you. Treat them as you would like to be treated and you will have no problem building relationships and having long term success in your business!

As an entrepreneur, there will be times when you’ll wonder whether what you are doing is working. Sometimes you’ll get immediate results, but most of the time it won’t happen that way. Think back to when you started your business. What was it that got you to take out your credit card and actually get started?

Maybe you wanted to be home with your kids… 
Maybe you were sick and tired of working all the time…
Maybe you wanted to travel the world…
whatever it is, deep down only you know the answer! 

I think it’s because I want to make money

The initial thought of wanting to make money seems like the answer however it is not enough. Many people initially believe that their “Big Why” is to get more money, but money is nothing more than a ticket to help us achieve our inner most desires. There is something much deeper inside all of us – more than money – that we need to discover within ourselves.

Ask yourself this question.
“What would be the things I would  love doing if I have more money or when I have achieved the income that I desire?”
You may have answers like “I will travel around the world”, “I want to go on a shopping spree” etc… These are all things that you desire to do with money however, these are surface answers and not the end of your story.

Now let’s dig deeper. Here is a deeper question to ask; what is the reason that I wish to travel and WHY?
Keep drilling down deeper and deeper until you get to the real reason you want these things. When you find the answers and you start feeling emotional about them, then you are uncovering the real reasons of Why you want to do it.

Get really clear on what your burning desire is

What it is that drives you in your business? What is the message you want to share? Keep “Your Big Why” in the forefront of everything you do. Write it out and keep it visible. Create a dream board to hang over your desk and look at it often. These seemingly “little things” is what will keep you going when times get tough. Your Big Why is what will drive you when everything inside of you wants to pack up and just quit.

Thank God it’s Friday… Oh it’s MONDAY! (TGIM)

I want to start this post by saying that no matter what day of the week it is, I am extremely grateful to God that he has allowed me to see another day.

Now, when you hear, “Thank God It’s Friday” (TGIF), what is comes to mind?
Relief, no more work for me!?
Excitement?
Peace?
It’s the weekend… Party time?

The way our society and work is designed, most people get excited and just live for the weekends. Usually that means no job to go to for a couple of days, spending time with friends and family, relaxing or doing some yard work, play or watch sports and have fun.

Ok, how do You feel about MONDAY?
What is your first thought or feeling when you hear that word?
Is it the opposite of what I just said when it comes to the word Friday?

Hey I understand it’s not the same for everyone, some people really enjoy their jobs and that is totally great.
But the truth is that a majority of the people in our society don’t. In fact, late Sunday night can get kind of depressing and even stressful for many because they are thinking of going back and having to get into the “Rat Race” again…

– Having to wake up to an alarm
– Driving in busy traffic
– Working with a Boss or some Co-workers they don’t like
– Not getting recognized enough for the work they do
– The constant fear of losing that job due to down-sizing
and the list goes on and on.

Now again I respect that not everyone has the same thoughts or feelings, but I would bet that a Big percentage of everyone reading this has experienced some or all of these fears on a weekly basis. How do you solve this problem? How do you get to the point where you say, Thank God it’s Monday – “TGIM”!

There are probably many options that can get you to this point however the one option that I know about is starting a home-based business and becoming your own boss. In fact, many people are starting to realize the same thing. Every day a higher percentage of people out there in the marketplace are starting up a home business to earn some extra income and/or to get to that point where they can have options on how and when they work.

The Internet for the most part is what is helping most of these people make it happen.
Just look around at the trends right now…

Mommy Bloggers
– Internet Marketing / Affiliate Marketing
– Online stores like Ebay, Amazon
– Ebook sales (Think Kindle)
– Mobile Apps
and again the list goes on and on.

The Internet has opened up the doors of possibility for all kinds of ventures. It’s made it so you can start a global business right from a little old clunky laptop no matter where you are at in the world.

Now I understand that most people are saying to themselves right now, “I don’t know how to do any of that!”
All it takes is the right opportunity, systems and a mentor like myself and you can really start an online business and get to the point where you can look forward to those late Sunday nights getting prepared for the start of a new week and say, “Thank God it’s Monday!”

The Right Attitude is the Key for Success!

This one key is more important than having the right tools and learning the necessary skills in your business and that is having the right attitude.

Obviously, you need to learn the nuts and bolts of your business – how to write a blog post, how to market that blog post, how to build your email list, and develop a relationship with those on your list, etc… but without the right attitude, these things are just tools lying unused in the tool shed. When you have the right attitude, now you can put those tools to work in a productive and effective manner.

There was a Professional Football Coach that once told his team that, “It’s not your Skill to Win, it’s Your Will to Win” that’s going to take us to Victory!

So, what exactly is the right attitude?

1. Be Coachable – Assuming that you already know everything will cause you to fail quicker than anything else. You need to stay open and coachable. Remember that others have gone before you, using the same system, and have become wildly successful. Get to know your successful upline team members. Ask them how you can make your business work. Learn from them and follow their suggestions.
2. Understand Your Purpose – What was the reason you started your home business? Maybe it was to create a financially secure future for yourself and your family, or to finally be debt-free. Maybe you wanted more time off. Get really clear on your reason and keep it in the forefront of your business every day.
3. Stay Positive – Like anything else, there will be ups and downs along the way. Staying positive will help you achieve success, but will also make the journey more enjoyable along the way. Staying positive will also help you attract more positive in your life and into your business.

There are a lot of things in your business that you don’t have complete control over.You can’t control whether people join your business and you can’t control your company’s compensation plan, but you can always stay in control of your attitude no matter what.

With the proper attitude, you will be able to remember how much sense the business made when you first started. You’ll remember how excited you were at the thought of quitting your job and being financially free. There will be no room for discouragement in your business. Instead, you’ll say, “I know why I joined the business, I know what I’m doing now, and I’m confident in where I’m going. No one will derail me because I am too focused on my objective.”
